Sheriff Announces Spring 2020 Citizen’s Academy

Clay County, Missouri – January 16th, 2020– Sheriff Paul Vescovo is proud to announce that the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy is returning this spring.

The Citizen's Academy provides information about the daily operation of the Sheriff’s Office and increases rapport with the public to better inform or dispel any misinformation through an educational process. The course is a 9-week, thirty-hour program, and the 2020 Academy will meet on Tuesday nights from 6pm to 9pm at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The 2020 Academy will run from March 3rd through May 12th. This program allows Sheriff’s Deputies and Clay County citizens to interact and exchange ideas about making our community safer.

Topics that are taught include Patrol Tactics, Drug, Criminal Investigations, Traffic and DWI Enforcement, K-9 unit, Crisis Intervention, Defensive Tactics and Self Defense, Crime Scene Investigation, Detention Operations, Emergency Management, 911 Communications, and other specialized units.
